2013 Biennial Convention

The 2013 Biennial Convention will be held at the Hilton - Chicago/Indian Lakes Resort in DuPage County, 30 minutes from Chicago. Similar to past Conventions, this years event will hold the elections of new leadership, have key issue discussions, legislation discussions, alumni honors, outstanding chapter recognitions and build upon the bonds of brother­hood. Jeff McGrath will be attending this event on behalf of Phi Kappa Theta SD Alpha Xi.

Quo Vadis 2012 - Okoboji, Iowa

The South Dakota Phi Kaps' held their annual planning retreat August 24th and 25th on the shores of Lake Okoboji, Iowa. This event marks the fourth year the retreat has been held at Lake Okoboji. The retreat allows all members to help plan the coming year's events including recruitment, philanthropy and social events. For the active members, it is a time to catch up after a summer away and come prepared for the new academic year.  Members also completed profiles for the website, which can be found on the "Current Member Profiles" page.  After a rainy night of camping and planning, the group left prepared for another successful year.

Spring Formal and Fish Fry

Currently Phi Kappa Theta is getting ready for formal, and one of its single most important events the Phi Kap Fish Fry.

We also adopted the soccer team in Greek life's Adopt-a-team program.

Recruitment Week Begins

Welcome back to USD and college life! This year, of course, is going to be much better than last year and the Phi Kaps are going to help make that happen. We've got a lot of fun things planned and in the works to make this a great year!

To start off, we have an awesome Recruitment Week planned that should be a lot of fun for everyone. 
  • Monday and Tuesday - Aug. 29-30 - We are grilling grub and giving house tours to anyone that's interested.
  • Wednesday - Aug 31 - Poker night with prizes.
  • Thursday - Sept. 1 - Sports night with included pizza and ice cream!
  • Friday - Sept. 2 - Formal dinner night which is by invitation only.
Come join us any of these nights or any other night for that matter, we love having company!

Congratulations to the 2011 Founders' Men!

Phi Kappa Theta South Dakota Alpha Xi is proud to announce this year's Founders' Men. The Founders' Men are those who are honored with one of six scholarships awarded by the fraternity's alumni association for their commitment to the ideals of Phi Kappa Theta. There are five awards, one for each ideal, which all give out $200 awards. In addition there is one award for overall commitment, the Alpha Xi Award, which is worth $500.

Phi Kap members who receive these awards are men who personally display the values of the fraternity in their fraternity and campus involvement. It is a great honor just to be nominated. Congratulations to the winners of this year's awards!

Phi Kaps Finally Charter!

Congratulations to the men of Phi Kappa Theta SD Alpha Xi for meeting all of the requirements and chartering February 26th, 2011. The ceremony was held at the Al Neuharth building on campus where many people joined them in celebrating this event.

Lunch was served before the Student Government President Tim Carr spoke. After Carr Bryan Palmer, former Phi Kap President said a few words along with Alumni Board President Matt Adamson, National Board of Trustees representative Nathan Rues, National Representative Gretchen Stahl and current Phi Kappa Theta President, Alex Johnson.

Before the chartering ceremony, the fraternity initiated six more gentlemen to the fraternity. Alex Johnson, Trevor Watson, John Buchkoski, Howard Schmidt, Dan Carmichael and Greg Maassen. These proud new Phi Kaps enjoyed a full day of fraternity and brotherhood that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Greek Week Winners

Phi Kappa Theta, along with SigmaAlpha Epsilon, Sigma Nu, and Pi Beta Phi, have come away with a win after Greek Week is over. After competing in the Talent Show, Powderpuff Football, the Greek Olympics, and Greek God, this team has come out on top.

Also on Monday, April 27th at the Greek Awards Ceremony, Matt Adamson was awarded with the Outstanding Fraternity President of the Year.

Along with Adamson receiving his award, Phi Kappa Theta was also awarded the Excellence in Web Page Development Award also.

Adam Ladwig was nominated for the Goodwill Ambassador Award, but did not end up receiving that award at the ceremony.

Three Phi Kaps were also recognized for their academic achievements at the awards ceremony. Matt Adamson, Bryan Palmer, and Adam Ladwig all received certificates for maintaining a 4.0 this past academic year.
